The North Shore Children’s Choir was formed in 2001 by Vanessa Kay and has been one of the top children’s choirs in Auckland since its inception. The choir regularly performs on the North Shore for community events, as well as their own concerts, and is one of the four choirs run by charity organisation, North Shore Youth Music.
The North Shore Children’s Choir is for children in school years 5 – 9.
One of the North Shore Children’s Choirs most high profile performances was for the soundtrack of the Disney movie, Lilo and Stitch in 2002. This involved music producers flying over from the United States to record the choir here in Auckland. The choir also sang at the premiere of the movie when it was released here in New Zealand. The choir sings at many community events throughout the year including performances at retirement villages and as the guest choir for various Carols by Candlelight and Christmas carnivals. Other notable performances have been singing with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra at two of their education series concerts in 2015 and 2017.
In 2010, the choir started their annual tours which would take them to a different New Zealand city or town each year. They have since performed in Hamilton, Tauranga, Taupo, Cambridge, Kerikeri, Whangarei, Rotorua and Wellington. 2017 saw them returning to Hamilton to perform at the Gallagher Concert Chamber and 2018 in Whangamata and Waiuku
Early 2018 also saw the choir performing live with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra in the epic Titanic Live production at the glorious Civic Theatre:
Rehearsals are taken by the musical director, Maralee Windock, every Wednesday 5pm – 6pm at St Peters Church in Killarney St, Takapuna. The Children’s Choir is a non-auditioned all comers choir. These rehearsals are often broken down into intensive sectionals, voice matching, singing techniques, breathing techniques, sightsinging, basic musical knowledge and ensemble awareness. With Maralee’s knowledge of teaching and music, she combines all these skills into a fun and enjoyable atmosphere.
Fees for the Children’s Choir are as follows:
$340 for the whole year ($85 a term).
Con Brio Choir was formed in 2017 as the premier choral ensemble of North Shore Youth Music. This is a strictly auditioned choir for children aged 11-16 years old and in year 7 and above.

In 2019, the choir toured to Christchurch, performing in the newly built Christchurch library Turanga and the beautiful atrium of the Christchurch Art Gallery.
